In the course of writing 'Dangerous Children' my e-book on the psychology of masculinity  which is a work-in-progress on this site I establish certain tenets which form the basis of my thinking on this subject.

'Dangerous Children', as I explain in its introduction has been, for personal reasons,  a long time in the making and it's structure is really the elaboration of a train of thought conducted over two decades.

It began with a sense of unease, a kind of intellectual hunch, that Second Wave Feminism  had missed something crucial with regard to masculinity in the late Sixties and Seventies. That unease increased when the concept of  'multiple masculinities' was adopted as the prevailing orthodoxy of Men's Studies throughout the Eighties, an orthodoxy that spread to its concomitant disciplines of Gender and Queer Studies. When I undertook doctoral research with teenage boys in the Nineties I began to understand the source of both my unease  and that niggling 'hunch'. I continued to think for another decade and found that my subsequent conclusions ran completely counter to all prevailling orthodoxies.....feminist, masculinist and otherwise and I got some hefty swipes from all parties when I broached them publicly.

Life has a funny way of sending just what you need next in its modular learning package and a recent dialogue with another author-researcher was the catalyst which dropped the last piece of the train of gender thought into place, resulting in the concept of 'Multiple Humanities....gender and beyond.'

Anyone who knows me or who has read my work will know the reason I can't write as much or as fast as I would like is because I have a very disabled son who requires a lot of care. 'Dangerous Children' will eventually wind its way to the conclusion of 'multiple humanities', having explored the dysfuctional nature of masculinity and the arbitrary construction of femininity on the way...but it might take me a while yet. In view of this I'm taking time out to write an extended article on my concept of 'Multiple Humanities' by giving a resume of the train of thought and events that have led to it. So please...................
