Jessica Metaneira is twenty and has been writing for the last seven years. Her poem "Nothing" was written at age thirteen. At fifteen she won the West Cork Arts Centre's Poetry competition with her entry entitled "One". At sixteen she won the National Youth Council's Arts Award with her innovative review printed on a promotional T-shirt. At seventeen she travelled to London to attend the Poetry Society's awards ceremony where she was one of one hundred young entrants chosen from around the world. On this occasion her prize-winning pieces were 'Morbid/Hybrid','Xenophobia' and 'Hate Poem'. Jessica attended formal schooling for a year and a half where her English teacher said she wasn't capable of writing a letter.
She has just completed a novel called "Sister/Syndrome" and is currently studying for a degree in Natural Sciences with the Open University. She doesn't know why she writes, but has a feeling there's a monster in her head who spews out words.
Her ambition is to contribute something useful to the world, which may have the advantage of using up her excess life-force.
